Secret Protein Powder Cookie Dough

We use a combination of unflavored grass-fed whey protein powder and collagen peptides to give these protein cookie dough balls an extra protein punch without adding crazy protein powder flavor! Unflavored protein powder is my jaaaaaaam! I use it in all of my baked oatmeal recipes too! Cookie Dough Protein Balls Recipe

These protein cookie dough balls are so simple to make and they really hit the spot when you don’t feel like baking anything because they’re no-bake! You can easily substitute any of the ingredients to fit your dietary needs. Here are the ingredients you’ll need for these edible cookie dough balls, plus the easy substitutes to make if you’re vegan, paleo, or nut-free!

  • Flax Egg- Loaded with vitamins and rich in fiber!
  • Cashew Butter- Cashew butter makes these cookie dough bites taste like the real deal! You can use code “shh20” for FREE SHIPPING at for my favorite freshly ground cashew butter! Feel free to sub any nut or seed butter here.
  • Water- Does this even count as an ingredient? If you can’t find any water laying around, you can use any milk.
  • Honey- Packed with antioxidants and minerals! Read more about the benefits of honey here. You can swap in pure maple syrup, coconut nectar, brown rice syrup, or a sticky sweetener of choice.
  • Pink Himalayan Salt- rich in minerals and less processed than table salt. Read more about the benefits of pink salt here.

Protein Powder Options:

I’ve tried this recipe omitting all protein powder addins and the cookie dough still comes out wonderfully! I’ve also made them using both whey and collagen and just collagen. All options are great! See note 2 for flavored protein powder suggestions.

Edible Protein Cookie Dough

This cookie dough is completely safe to eat because we don’t use any raw egg! We use one flax egg which adds extra fiber and allows our cookie dough to hold together. I use this same trick in my Peanut Butter Cookie Dough Bars and my Almond Butter Chocolate Bars!

How to Freeze Cookie Dough Protein Bites

Just like all of my Protein Ball recipes (lemon, peanut butter chocolate, almond joy), these cookie dough protein balls are AMAZING straight out of the freezer. Since we use unflavored whey, (one of my favorite protein powders to use in my Peanut Butter Protein Bars too), these cookie dough balls stay chewy even when frozen! It’s unbelievable! They’re not rock hard and they won’t break your teeth if you eat them straight from the freezer. Another reason to love them! Just keep them in the freezer for a perfect healthy pre-workout snack or after dinner clean eating dessert!

  1. Place cookie dough protein balls in an airtight container or zip lock bag.
  1. Store in the freezer for 4 months or longer!

Protein Cookie Dough Balls (Easy + Gluten-Free + No Bake!)

These healthy edible Protein Cookie Dough Balls are all you’ve ever dreamed of! They’re gluten-free, vegan, and have a paleo and nut-free option! They’re super easy to make and the perfect pre-workout snack or clean eating dessert!

1. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper. In a medium bowl, mix together ground flax and water and let sit 2-5 minutes until thickened.

2. Add in the cashew butter, water and honey. Mix until smooth.

3. Add in the oat flour, pink salt, protein powder, and collagen. Mix until well combined. If mixture is too dry, add in splashes of water and mix until it reaches a cookie dough consistency. Fold in the chocolate chips.

4. Use a small cookie scoop or your hands, form cookie dough balls and transfer to parchment-lined cookie sheet (the batter will be extra sticky if using whey protein powder).

5. Eat right away or freeze for 15 minutes. Store in an airtight container in refrigerator for up to 2 weeks or freeze for 4 months or longer.


  1. Dough Consistency: All protein powders absorb a different amount of moisture. If your protein ball dough is too dry, add a little more water. If it’s too wet, add a little more oat flour until you have desired consistency to form protein hearts.
  2. Protein Powder: If you are using a flavored protein powder DO NOT use the full ½ cup this recipe calls for. Flavored protein powders are much stronger in flavor so add a little bit at a time until you get the desired flavor. Every protein powder is different in sweetness too, so adjust the honey or maple syrup to fit your taste. You can also omit all protein powder and add more oat flour or flour of your choice.
