Why & How I Started Living a Healthier Life
I am first and foremost a follower and daughter of Christ. I’m in my mid-twenties and have a degree in Elementary Education. My husband and I are high school sweethearts and we just welcomed our little guy, Cameron, into our family in August of 2019.
Growing up with four older brothers…yes, four… (bless my mom’s heart), it was easy for me to eat whatever and however much my brothers ate. I have been an athlete all my life too, so I thought I could eat anything and simply “burn it off” later in practice or games.
Rude Awakening – College
Playing my first year of college volleyball in 2014 was a rude awakening. I knew I had to nourish my body with better foods to give me more sustainable energy in order to perform my best. I felt God calling me to make a change in my life. And to be completely honest, I was deathly afraid of gaining the “freshman 15.”
I made a decision to fuel my body with whole, nourishing foods. Ever since I made that choice, I have enjoyed learning about superfoods and experimenting with healthy recipes.
I actually ended up LOSING weight in college because I was eating healthier, becoming more aware of what healthy foods actually are and exercising regularly. By doing tons of research and following dietitians and health influencers, I have gained unforgettable knowledge about health, nutrition, and fitness. This knowledge is what truly made a positive impact on my overall health, energy levels, physique, mood, confidence and so much more!
What I’ve Learned
Here are just a few examples of the numerous things I’ve learned along the way;
- Knowing what to look for on food labels
- Understanding what foods are actually healthy vs. what is just marketing
- How to nourish my body with WHOLE real foods
- How healthy food can and should taste amazing
- What forms of exercise and training help transform my body, mind, and confidence level
- How to listen to my body
My desire is to share this knowledge with you so that you can see the same positive change in your own life!
I find it important to live a healthy life in a way that is not boring or tasteless. It’s fun and challenging for me to create desserts and foods with wholesome ingredients that actually taste amazing!
When I give my family one of my secretly healthy concoctions, like my secretly healthy banana bread, I often wait quietly to see their reactions. It brings me such joy when their faces light up from tasting the delicious flavors. But, the REAL joy is when I reveal to them the truth; it contains all healthy ingredients!
Delicious food doesn’t have to make you feel sluggish, bloated, or guilty. That’s why I make secretly healthy goodies everyone can enjoy and feel good about eating!
The goal with my blog is for you to find some secretly healthy recipes, habits, tips, and tricks that you can implement to help you and your family live a healthier life in the simplest, most delicious way possible.
