So I’ve made a recipe for peanut butter granola, and that is one of my favorites! Its only 4 ingredients and so easy to whip together. Making that protein granola gave me a bright idea… why not swap the peanut butter for NUTELLA! And so, a legend was born in the Secretly Healthy Home Kitchen.

How to Know When Your Homemade Granola is Done Baking

  • Fragrant & Golden: You’ll know your granola is done baking when it’s fragrant and slightly golden on the edges. Trust me, when you smell it, you’ll know. Mhhhmm! Peanut Butter goodness.
  • Note: Your homemade granola will crisp up more after cooling completely out of the oven. So don’t worry if it doesn’t seem crunchy at first.

How to Eat Granola

If you follow me on Instagram, you know exactly how I like to eat my granola: for dessert! I usually pour my homemade granola in a small bowl, top it with some dark chocolate chips, frozen blueberries, and milk! This is my absolute favorite thing for an after dinner healthy treat. You have to try it! Here are some of the other possible ways you can eat this granola…

Commonly Asked Questions:

  1. How do you make homemade granola crunchy? Bake homemade granola at a lower temperature to ensure it bakes evenly without getting overly crispy. We also use honey and nutella to bind everything together, which makes for a clustery, crunchy granola recipe.
  1. How long does homemade granola last? Homemade granola will last up to 1 month or longer if stored in an airtight container at room temperature, or up to 2 months in the refrigerator.
  1. How do you re-crisp this homemade peanut butter granola? This granola does a great job at staying crispy, but if you need to make it crisp again, pop it in the oven at 325 F. for 5-10 minutes until fragrant and crisp.

What Makes This Nutella Granola Healthy?

There are a few reasons why this homemade nutella granola is healthier than other recipes. The major factor is the HOMEMADE HEALTHY NUTELLA we use. My nutella recipe uses only 4 ingredients, is refined sugar-free and oil-free! Here is a lovely chart showing you how much healthier my nutella recipe is compared to the store bought version. Now, if you happen to have regular nutella on hand, that will work just fine too! Just note that the nutrition information will be different.

Another reason this homemade granola is healthy is because we use rolled oats and honey to sweeten. You can read all about the benefits of oats in my Top 6 Superfoods resource! Honey or maple syrup are also amazing natural sweeteners for this granola too.

Healthy Nutella Granola Substitutions

  • Nutella: Substitute any nut or seed butter here! But, to make it nutella, you really should use nutella. I use my homemade nutella recipe! It’s only 4 ingredients and so easy to whip together. Plus, it is sooooooo much healthier for you than store bought nutella with all those added oils and refined sugars. Check out the comparison chart above to see just how healthier the secretly healthy granola is compared to the unhealthy version!
  • Honey: Easily substitute the honey for any natural sticky sweetener of choice. Maple syrup is a great option.
  • Oats: You can use quick cooking or rolled oats for this recipe. You can also substitute the quinoa for more oats. The quinoa does add a nice crunchy texture and boosts the protein, but the granola will still be delicious if you use all oats.
